Materials

Instructions
-
Explain that our music class includes friends and "friends we haven't met yet" and that our friends' names have same and different sounds.
-
Play the song "Look Who's Here." During A, invite students to mirror your motions:
- Look who's here - hands make visor above eyes
- It's a friend of mine - upward palms gesture toward classmates
-
During B, echo-speak while clapping each syllable of the four sample names. Ex. Jen-na" - two claps; Rob" - one clap.
-
Play song again and invite students to join in the entire song.
-
Now, play accompaniment (up to 32 names). During A, all sing with motions.
-
During B, hold microphone in front of a student. When that student hears Now say your name, it's _________, s/he speaks their first name and all echo. Repeat with next three students.
-
Continue with groups of four until all students have had a turn.
NOTE If last group of names doesn't equal four, fill in with, for example, your own name or school's name or principal's name, and save the last line for: "Now, we're all friends together." Stop the track.
OPTIONAL If time permits, invite students to recite all names in reverse order while passing the microphone back to the starting student.
NOTE Some kindergartners may be shy to speak their name aloud and may need teacher help. For flexible timing, the song may be sung without the recording.
