ASK Can you name the musical instrument inside each of us that keeps a beat — the pulse of music that is steady and even? (heart)
Describe how that same heartbeat is felt, heard, played, and moved to - with music! The song "I Got the Beat, Beat, Beat!" is the perfect song for moving to the beat!
Prompt a discussion about moving in a safe and fun way around the room, ex.:
"personal safety zone or safety shield" — moving so as to avoid contact with others
"moving bubbles" — each student is inside an imaginary bubble - if bubbles touch, they burst
Play the song. Invite students to mirror your beat motions throughout all four verses:
Verse 1 — march
Verse 2 — clap
Verse 3 — nod
Verse 4 — jump
If desired, play again with students leading the motions for each verse.
