Echo songs are a form of call and response songs. A leader will call out the words for you to echo.
Here is an example: The wackiest witch (the wackiest witch), you've ever seen (you've ever seen), goes out at night (goes out at night), on Halloween (on Halloween).
Then, sing the entire sentence together: The wackiest witch you've ever seen goes out at night on Halloween.
Sing all the echoes in the song together. Clap your hands on Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Add motions to help remember the words of the song, then sing together.
The wackiest witch you've ever seen goes out at night on Halloween. On witch, put your hands on top of your head to form a pointed hat. On seen, put your hand above your eyebrows. On night, put one thumb over your shoulder. On Halloween, make a peek a boo motion by hiding your face behind your hands, then moving your hands away. (This is the sign language for "Halloween.")
She curls her hair and paints her toes, and powders the warts upon her nose. On hair, spin your hair with your finger. On toes, touch your toes. On warts and nose, pretend to powder your nose.
She dresses up in a fancy gown, and drives a Cadillac right down to town. On up, point both thumbs to yourself. On gown, move your hands from your shoulders to the floor. On Cadillac and town, pretend to drive a car.
Her witch's brew is caviar. Now don't you think she's gone too far? On brew, pretend to stir a big pot. On caviar, make little circles with both hands to show fish eggs. On think, point one finger to your forehead. On far, hold both hands up like you are saying "I don't know."
Add classroom instruments on the phrase Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Challenge: Choose a small group or soloist to sing the leader part. Everyone else will sing the echo part.
