Materials
Pumpkins (real, plastic or cut outs)
Instructions
Display pumpkins throughout an open space to make a "pumpkin patch."
Play a game. As you listen to the music, move expressively through the pumpkin patch trying to avoid touching any pumpkins. If you touch or knock over a pumpkin, leave the pumpkin patch. Those still in the pumpkin patch at the end of the song are supreme Jumpin' Jack O'Lanterns!
1st time: Walk as though you are stepping over pumpkins. Be sure to pick up your feet high! Then, wave your arms over your head like tree limbs blowing in the wind.
2nd time: Walk like a wobbly skeleton.
Chorus: Whenever jump! is sung, jump with both feet! On Halloween, place both hands on your knees. On Boo, show scary hands. On Whoo, move around like a ghost.
3rd time: Tiptoe, then move like a cat. Then, rub your arms like you are shivering. Finally, put your hands on your cheeks with your mouth open.
Repeat motions for Chorus.
4th time: Point your thumbs to yourself and sway from side to side. Then, jump once on the word jump. Finally, rub stomach as if to say "yum!"
Repeat motions for Chorus, ending on Boo!
AB Form: This song has two parts. One part described different ways to move. Let's call that part A. The other part always told us to do one thing. What was it? (Jump!) Let's call that part B.
Label one large pumpkin "A" and another large pumpkin "B." Choose two volunteers to walk through the pumpkin patch to show the form of the song when it is their turn in the song.
Sing and perform together.
